Commissioners and residents discussed safety concerns at a driveway adjacent to a railroad track and agreed the county must coordinate with the railroad company before any fix can be completed.
Residents and staff described heavy traffic (including UPS, FedEx and postal carriers) and a steep approach that causes asphalt to break down, creating a hazardous condition when vehicles accelerate up the hill near the track. "So it's it's a safety issue for the mail lady as well as anybody else that's coming out of that house," said Unidentified Speaker 2.
Commissioners agreed the county would reach out to the railroad to request a meeting. "I'm gonna reach out to the railroad," said Unidentified Speaker 3, adding that both the railroad and the county would need to do their portions of the work for the repair to succeed. Officials noted liability and right-of-way issues may require legal review and resolution drafting if the railroad will not cooperate.
No formal action or vote was taken; the commission instructed staff to try to arrange discussions with the railroad and to prepare a resolution if needed.
