The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors on May 28 adopted the county’s fiscal year 2024–25 operating and capital budget documents and approved the appropriation ordinances that authorize spending, voting unanimously to move the budgets forward.
Steve Elliott, the county’s budget administrator, told the board that adopting the budget documents “fulfills legal requirements” but noted adoption of the documents is separate from appropriating funds. The board then conducted second readings of two appropriation ordinances and approved them on the same day, which effectuated the appropriation of funds for FY2024–25. Elliott also presented and the board approved the county’s classification and pay plan for FY2024–25.
Board members moved and seconded the measures; the clerk conducted roll-call votes with the following recorded: Mister Radford — Yes; Missus ****** — Yes; Mister Mahoney — Yes; Missus Shepherd — Yes; Mister North — Yes. The motions passed unanimously.
Elliott said staff recommended approval and reported no changes since the first reading. During discussion a figure of $352,000,000 was mentioned in the meeting record; a detailed breakdown of that total was not provided on the meeting record at the time.
The board’s adoption of the budget documents and passage of appropriation ordinances completes the county’s formal approvals for FY2024–25; staff will implement the appropriations and administrative steps associated with the approved pay plan.
