The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors on May 28 voted to adopt an ordinance amending the county code’s building permit fee schedule (section 7‑71), the first update to those fees since September 2004.
County Attorney Peter Lubeck reviewed the proposal, noting two charts in the board packet that compared current and proposed fees and estimated the changes would generate roughly $160,000 in additional revenue for FY2024–25. Lubeck said he changed the ordinance’s effective date in the packet to July 1, 2024, rather than immediate adoption.
No members of the public signed up to speak during the public hearing. A board member moved to adopt the ordinance; the motion carried on a roll‑call vote with all present members approving the measure.
Board members thanked staff in the community development department for their work updating the schedule after about two decades without an increase.
