The Clay County Commission approved several fiscal and contract items Tuesday, including a task order for environmental monitoring at the airport south property and routine invoice approvals under the consent agenda.
Facilities Director Donna Kuntz asked commissioners to approve a task order with Burns & McDonnell for a plume stability study covering 12 monitoring wells at the airport south property. The work is intended to demonstrate stability over five quarters; if the data show stability, the county could close the long‑running monitoring requirement with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Kuntz said the total task order is $92,981 and noted the county’s Petroleum Storage Tank Insurance Fund may reimburse up to 75% of eligible costs upon final invoicing.
The consent agenda, approved earlier, included 184 county invoices totaling $3,245,725.54 for Jan. 24–30; a payment of $91,280 to the University of Missouri Extension for 2026 (cited administratively under RSMo. § 262.597); and a $29,451.41 quote approval to purchase two variable message boards from AllTraffic Solutions, Inc.
Commissioners also approved 10 invoices for the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office totaling $1,923.47. Commissioner Thompson recused himself from that vote; the remainder of the board approved the prosecutor invoices by roll call.
The Burns & McDonnell task order drew no opposition and passed 6–0; Kuntz said prior restrictive covenants and coordination with state regulators underlie the continuing monitoring effort.
