EDC staff updated commissioners on two housing projects the commission had tracked: Willow Creek Villas and the development once dubbed the "catalyst" or Pleasant View Village.
Nathan told the commission that Willow Creek Villas was "100% leased," with the last tenants expected to move in recently. Commissioners and members of the EDC said they had heard only minor parking and traffic concerns from neighbors and discussed possibly adding no-parking signs and raising the issue at an upcoming town-council meeting.
On the larger catalyst project, Nathan said negotiations for a land swap with the Galbraith family stalled after the town council opposed development of the county farm property and county commissioners were not ready to dispose of farm ground. As a result, the larger multi-unit vision is not moving forward now; staff reported the county gave permission to split and survey a parcel on the south side of town so other smaller-scale housing options can be considered.
Why it matters: The commission has prioritized housing options in recent agendas. The Willow Creek Villas outcome demonstrates local demand for new units, while the stalled Pleasant View Village shows how intergovernmental decisions (town council and county commissioners) and utility/infrastructure considerations can halt larger proposals.
Next steps: Staff said it will raise traffic-control options with the town council, may install signage, and will look for smaller infill projects with partners and alternative funding sources. No formal motions or funding decisions for housing were made during the meeting.
