Sherry, director of the Santa Fe Depot, told the Board of Park Commissioners on Feb. 5 that the Depot experienced a busy year of programming — including the Summerbees concert series, an Emerging Artist gallery, comedy and poetry events and expanded gallery hours — and drew tens of thousands of visitors through downtown activities.
Sherry said the organization finally received ARPA funding that helped stabilize its finances, enabling the Depot to hire a facilities manager and expand gallery hours. She also detailed facility challenges: mold remediation during a key November–December art show, damage related to Amtrak’s platform work that exposed a seam between floors, and persistent HVAC issues stemming from the 2017 renovation. Sherry said she will provide a balance sheet to the board to supplement the income/expense statement in the packet.
Board members praised the Depot’s programming and asked a number of operational questions, including request for prior‑year comparisons and whether the Depot can supply an asset/liability statement. Staff recommended the board accept the annual report once the balance sheet is attached; the board moved, seconded and approved acceptance by voice vote.
Sherry asked the board to consider improved exterior signage in future Norman Forward discussions to better advertise Depot events to passersby. She also described outreach plans tied to Norman Music Festival, and said the Depot plans to host a whistle‑stop shop to sell local artists’ work as a revenue source.
Next step: Depot will send an updated financial packet with balance sheet to staff, which will be included with the materials sent to city council.
