Parks Foundation donation, pickleball courts and trail extension rise on Pentops CAC agenda

Members asked for updates from the Parks and Recreation Foundation and county parks staff about ongoing projects including pickleball courts and an Old Mill Trail extension.

Speaker 9 asked how Parks Foundation projects and donations are decided. Speaker 4 replied that Teddy Hamilton is the foundation’s president and the foundation has several committees that raise funds for specific projects; the foundation delivered a check to Albemarle County to replace a tennis court with pickleball courts, and those courts are expected to be added in the spring.

The chair also asked for an update on efforts to extend Old Mill Trail to the North Winton bridge. Members said contractors have assessed required bridges and that extending the trail will raise the project’s cost; volunteers remain available to assist with trail work.

Members asked staff to consider inviting Parks Foundation leadership for a future CAC presentation so residents can learn how project priorities and community input are determined.
