The Springfield City Community Preservation Committee voted Feb. 3 to extend two contracts with Regreen Springfield and to add $10,000 to the city’s contract with preservation consultant Shannon Walls.
Chair Bob McCarroll introduced two Regreen requests: additional time to finish work at Glendale Terrace and an extension of the organization’s invasive‑plant program. Karen Lee, the committee’s administrative consultant, said the Glendale contract had about $8,000 remaining and Regreen requested more time to finish. After discussion, member Rosemary moved to extend the Glendale Terrace contract through Aug. 31, 2026; the motion was seconded and approved in a roll‑call vote of named members.
On the invasive‑plant program, Lee said the proposed extension would run to Nov. 30, 2026, to allow work timed to the growing season for Japanese knotweed. The committee voted to approve that extension as well.
The committee also addressed consultant funding for preservation work provided by Shannon Walls through the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission. Lee said the budget originally allocated $15,000 for the contract but that Walls has done more hours than anticipated; she told the committee “the amount that that was approved, in the budget was 15,000, and this increase is for an additional 10,000.” The committee moved, seconded and approved an increase of $10,000 to cover the additional work through the contract expiration on June 30.
All three motions were approved by roll call with the named members present voting yes.
What happens next
Karen Lee said the committee will track remaining funds on the Glendale contract and that the extra consultant funds are reserved and can be returned to the CPA account if not spent. The committee also noted timing considerations for the invasive‑plant treatment and that the additional consultant funding will be reconciled in the next budget cycle if not fully used. The meeting adjourned after routine administrative reminders about application deadlines and meeting dates.
