Coastal Corridor Alliance presented the final report on its Arts and Parks pop-up series at the Costa Mesa Arts Commission meeting on Feb. 5, saying participants created 148 artworks across eight events and that the program exceeded its initial goal of 118 pieces by about 25%.
The presenter described two 10-by-20-foot mosaics built from participant work and explained that the program paired community engagement with exhibitions at the Santa Ana Art Walk and Fairview Park. "We actually were able to create just shy of a 150 art pieces," the Coastal Corridor Alliance representative said, noting that roughly 700 people attended the Art Walk and about 100 visited the Ferry Park exhibition.
Staff and commissioners praised the project’s partnerships and community reach. The presenter acknowledged artist and art‑director support and presented the commission with a piece of participant work as a thank-you. Commissioners noted the program’s value for family engagement and cultural connection in Fairview Park and other public spaces.
The report included design adaptations for different venues—small cube sculptures in place of a single mosaic for Fairview Park—and highlighted participation from local artists and the Hoshman tribe. The commission did not take formal action on the presentation; staff will continue to support collaborations and incorporate lessons learned into upcoming public-art programming.
The commission moved from the presentation into regular business after thanking the Coastal Corridor Alliance for the gift and community work.
