District audit: South Plainfield receives unmodified opinion and no recommendations

An external auditor reported to the South Plainfield Board of Education that the district’s 2025 annual comprehensive financial report received an unmodified opinion and that the auditors’ management report contained no recommendations.

The auditor said the annual comprehensive financial report presents government-wide statements, fund statements and budgetary-basis schedules and highlighted exhibits where readers can find budgeted versus actual activity and 10-year comparative schedules. "Your district received an unmodified opinion," the presenter said, noting this is the highest opinion type and indicates financial statements are fairly presented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

The presenter also noted the management report — the compliance-focused document required by the Department of Education — lists areas audited including payroll, board secretary and treasurer records, federal and state grants, purchasing, food service and student activities. The auditor thanked the district staff for their cooperation during the engagement.

Board members acknowledged the report and expressed appreciation to the business office and administration for the clean audit.
