The Columbia County Planning Commission voted 4-0 on Feb. 5 to accept without prejudice a request to withdraw variance application VA26-02-01, which sought a reduced setback for a proposed shop at 1015 Carla Court.
Planning staff (Dylan) told the commission the lot is zoned RA and that the originally requested reduced setback would have placed the shop 10 feet from a rear lot line that is technically subject to a 25-foot setback. "They are now requesting to withdraw this variance request," Dylan said, explaining the applicant contacted a neighboring property owner, who opposed the request, and then revised the site plan.
Dylan told the commission that the applicant had begun applying for building permits reflecting the full 25-foot setback and that staff supported accepting the withdrawal without prejudice because the revised plan keeps county lot requirements intact. "Staff is supporting their request to withdraw without prejudice," Dylan said.
An unnamed commissioner moved to accept the withdrawal without prejudice; the chair seconded. The chair announced the motion carried, recorded in the transcript as "Motion carries 4 0." The commission did not take further action on the variance.
The chair had earlier reminded attendees that the Planning Commission is a recommending body and that decisions are forwarded to the Columbia County Board of Commissioners for final action on Feb. 17, 2026. The transcript does not record any public comment on this item in the meeting record provided.
Action on VA26-02-01 was limited to accepting the withdrawal; no new variance was approved or denied at the meeting.
