Dylan, a planning staff member, presented a variance request for 1015 Carla Court in the Grimaud Farms subdivision during the Feb. 5 Columbia County Planning Commission meeting and said the applicant requested a reduced setback from a rear lot line. "The original request with this was to reduce the setback along the lot line ... the proposed shop being only 10 feet from that lot line," Dylan said, explaining the district’s rear‑lot requirement is 25 feet.
Dylan told commissioners the applicant contacted the adjacent neighbor seeking support but that the neighbor opposed the request; the applicant then revised the site plan and began applying for building permits conforming to the 25‑foot setback. Given the plan change, staff "is supporting their request to withdraw without prejudice," Dylan said.
Commissioner (Speaker 2) moved to accept withdrawal of VA26‑201 (the variance to reduce the building setback at 1015 Carla Court) without prejudice; the chairman seconded. The commission voted to accept the withdrawal, "Motion carries 4 0." The withdrawal preserves the county’s standard lot requirements by keeping the required 25‑foot rear setback in place.
There were no attorney matters, no additional public comments, and no further action on the variance; the commission’s recommendation and record will be forwarded to the Columbia County Board of Commissioners as part of its routine referral process.
