The Kentucky Senate cleared multiple items on Feb. 5, 2026 on third reading and by voice or recorded votes.
Senate Bill 5: An act relating to Kentucky-grown agricultural product procurement (sponsor: Senator from Callaway). The sponsor said the short, half-page bill will encourage procurement of Kentucky-grown fruits and vegetables for school cafeterias and other purchasers, keeping nutrition fresher and supporting local producers. The clerk recorded 38 ayes, no nays and announced 'Senate Bill 5 is passed.' Several senators used their explanation time to praise the bill as a step toward healthier school meals and rural prosperity.
Senate Bill 73: An act relating to tallow-based cosmetic products (sponsor explanation by Senator from Callaway). The bill expands existing allowances so that people engaged in home-based processing may use beef tallow in cosmetic products (the sponsor noted Kentucky already allows beef tallow for food processing). No members sought questions and the clerk announced 'There being 38 yays, no nays, Senate Bill 73 is passed.'
Senate Resolution 52: Recognizing July 11, 2026, as 'Remember Srebrenica Day' in Kentucky. Senator Warren introduced the resolution, highlighted members of the Bosnian community in Bowling Green who were present and recounted survivors’ contributions; the Senate adopted the resolution by voice vote.
Senate Resolution 42: Honoring AL 8 1 on its 100th anniversary. Senator Clark presented the resolution recognizing the Winchester-based beverage company’s century in business and membership in Kentucky Proud; the resolution passed by voice vote.
Procedural note: The Rules Committee posted additional bills to the regular orders for Friday, Feb. 6, and the Rules Committee recommitted SB34. New bills were introduced for future consideration, including measures on cannabis, preschool education and tax policy.
Taken together, these actions advance a set of largely noncontroversial measures (SB5, SB73, SR52, SR42) while the chamber devoted substantial floor time to debate and passage of SB12 earlier in the day.
