Board staff gave an update on equipment maintenance and poll-book distribution for upcoming elections, outlining repairs completed after the last general election and preparations for fire-district contests.
The report said sleeves and batteries on voting machines were replaced, early-loading machines with single pins were retrofitted with double-pin canisters to better secure ballots, and a subset of PBM units were repaired in-house (about five of 10 restored). ADA inspections and pull-book testing were scheduled to begin the following week. Staff noted six machines are assigned to three fire-district elections (Monroe Fire District 1, Scataway Fire District 2, and South Brunswick Fire District 2).
On poll books, staff said paper poll books are being printed and distributed to all but one town; one fire district had not returned a response regarding poll-book receipt. Staff also reiterated that fire districts have the option to rent machines from the county but uptake varies by district.
The board did not indicate any unresolved readiness issues that would delay the upcoming fire-district elections; staff will continue testing and inspections and will follow up with any outstanding logistics.
