Committee endorses policy to align county and city emergency policies

Leon County staff presented a draft policy proposal asking the county and city to coordinate and align policies and procedures that affect public safety and emergency services. At the committee’s request, the draft language would be included in the committee’s status report to the Board of County Commissioners and in the committee’s final report later this summer.

Member Haynes moved option 1 to approve the policy recommendation; after brief discussion about the phrase "work with" and its discretionary interpretation, the committee took a roll-call vote and approved the recommendation unanimously. Staff told the committee the language is advisory and would not change charter language but would be presented to the Board for consideration in March.
