Glynn County commissioners approved two separate public‑hearing items on Feb. 5 to abandon unimproved 10‑foot right‑of‑way strips, in both cases conditioning approval on retention of utility and drainage easements.
Hartman, the county presenter and engineer, described the first case (ABD‑25‑1) near 1812 Ocean Road on St. Simons Island as an unused unimproved right‑of‑way and noted public works, the Brunswick‑Glynn County Joint Water and Sewer Commission and, more recently, Georgia Power requested easements over the abandoned area. No speakers opposed that abandonment. Commissioner Duncan moved approval with conditions that Glynn County Public Works, the Joint Water and Sewer Commission, and Georgia Power retain easements; the motion passed unanimously.
The second request (ABD‑25‑12) was for a 10‑foot strip along Tennessee Avenue. Hartman said one written public comment (Allie Goode) opposed the abandonment; applicant Brad Proctor spoke in favor, arguing the existing 4‑story magnolia tree obstructs the alley and that approval would preserve the tree without imposing additional tax digest impacts. The board approved the abandonment as presented.
Both abandonments were approved with conditions to protect drainage and utility access.
Next steps: staff to record easements and update property records as required.
