SIU Board elects Phil Gilbert chair, names officers and committee appointments

Trustees of the Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees elected Phil Gilbert as board chair and completed their slate of officer and committee appointments during the meeting. Nominations were opened and closed before the board conducted roll-call votes that a trustee declared elected by majority of the voting members present.

The board also elected Dr. Ed Hightower as vice chair and Sarah Salger (transcript spelling varies) as secretary. John Simmons was named to serve on the executive committee and was designated as the board's representative to the State University's civil service system merit board. The chair pro tem announced committee memberships and alternates for academic matters, audit, finance and architecture and design, and named trustees to several university-affiliated boards and alumni organizations.

The actions were handled by motion and roll-call votes and were incorporated into an omnibus motion later in the meeting that approved routine agenda items F through P. The chair pro tem declared the omnibus motion passed by roll call. No formal dissent or abstentions were recorded in the meeting record for the officer elections as announced by the secretary.
