Science Olympiad team places second at regional, qualifies for state at Caltech

Marissa Taylor, a student and Science Olympiad team member, and Arturo, the team president, told the Palmdale Aerospace Academy District board that the team placed second overall at a regional competition and earned a spot at the state tournament at Caltech on April 12.

"We placed second, which is the best placement in this team's history," Arturo said, listing event placements that included first-place finishes in several build and forensics categories at the latest regional. Taylor described a season of competitions — Wolfpack Invitational at Great Oaks High School, the Aggie Invitational at UC Davis and the Los Angeles Regional — and said grants helped cover travel to some events.

The presentation included fundraising plans (a water sales fundraiser at senior graduation) and an April 17 blood drive. Board members publicly congratulated the team during the meeting.

The board did not take formal action on the presentation but recognized the students during reports.
