Asheville audit committee elects officers, adopts rules and 'as-needed' meeting schedule

The Asheville City Audit Committee approved several administrative items at a meeting that marked its return after an 18-month hiatus. Committee members approved the minutes of the July 18, 2024 meeting, elected leadership and adopted updated rules of procedure and an "as-needed" meeting cadence.

The committee voted unanimously to adopt the minutes and then moved to officer elections. Nate Hathaway nominated himself for chair and was elected by voice vote after a second; Sandra (surname recorded with variations in the transcript) was nominated and elected vice chair. The committee then voted to adopt updated rules of procedure intended to align committee practice with city requirements.

Committee members discussed the regular meeting schedule and, after staff explained that boards and commissions will generally meet on an "as-needed" basis unless staff or committee members identify agenda items, voted to adopt that approach through June 2027. The chair said special meetings will be called when a staff-assigned task or pressing item requires committee action.
