Cache County officials told the Airport Authority Board that Logan City has transferred its interest in the authority to Cache County, making the county the primary funding agency for airport operations previously supported by both jurisdictions. County staff said the county will take on Logan's historical contribution and is evaluating an adjusted board composition that would reduce Logan's appointed seats from three to two while maintaining the Logan mayor's participation.
County staff framed the change as an effort to avoid what was described at the meeting as "double taxation," noting that Logan City residents pay the same county taxes as other county residents and that Cache County will now cover the city's prior contribution toward airport operations. The change will be reflected in future organizational decisions, and staff said they expect to present a finalized structure at the next meeting.
The board also completed routine governance business. The minutes from the Dec. 4 meeting were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. A separate motion to delay election of board chair and vice chair until the board has had a chance to consult with the county council was moved, seconded and carried; no new officers were elected at this meeting.
Board members were invited to raise questions about how the transfer will affect operations and appointments; county staff offered to answer specific follow-ups and to provide a formal organizational recommendation at the next meeting. The next meeting was announced for March 5.
