Johnson County facilities director Tony Baron told the Public Building Commission on Feb. 5 that construction of the county’s Health Services Building (HSB) is progressing and remains on the county’s phased timeline.
Baron said active construction began in 2025 and the structure at 100 19th in Ridgeview is "almost complete." He told commissioners the county expects the exterior to be finished in 2026, demolition of the existing HSP portion will occur as Evergreen relocates, and the schedule targets phase‑1 move‑in and HSP demolition in early 2027 with a final move‑in in the third quarter of 2027. "We will have the exterior complete, there about 2026," Baron said.
Baron showed commissioners a drone flyover and highlighted a courtyard, the Clearview main entrance and the dock area that will handle most deliveries. He noted a topping ceremony held with county staff, DHE facilities, AHS and mental health, and described the visible signed beam as a lasting acknowledgment of staff involvement.
During questions, Commissioner Hanslick asked about the Aging and Human Services kitchen’s location and size; Baron said the kitchen will be located near the dock and that he would provide the precise size to commissioners later. Commissioners clarified that the kitchen will be a production (non‑public) kitchen to prepare meals for Aging and Human Services programs with distribution via dock deliveries.
Next steps: staff will provide requested size and amenity details for the production kitchen and continue phased demolition and move‑in planning as Evergreen relocates.
