Council members and staff highlighted the successful Skypark playground ribbon-cutting during the Feb. 4 meeting, describing hundreds of families in attendance and strong community enthusiasm.
The city manager told the council that Mayor Lind received a check for over $66,000 from former Scotts Valley Community Advocates representative Sarah De Leon to fulfill a funding commitment for the tot lot. The donation allowed the city to install an ADA-accessible rubber surface across the playground rather than only partially covering it.
During public comment, resident Sue Draper praised the new playground as "stunning" and said people are traveling from around the county to visit Skypark. Council members and staff encouraged the public to consult city communications for further details and thanked volunteers and partners who helped bring the project to fruition.
City staff said work on related amenities and the Skypark Master Plan continues, and that the city is evaluating proposals from firms responding to the Skypark Master Plan RFP.
