The City of Eagle Pass Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals voted unanimously to grant a variance permitting a third sign at 564 South Bibb Street, officials said.
Chairwoman opened the public hearing at about 5:34 p.m. and staff described the petition by Generation Signs Incorporated to deviate from Appendix A, Section 15 HD 1(a) of the zoning ordinance, which generally limits businesses to two signs. City staff told the board the proposed additional sign is located in a commercial area, is similar to signs approved for other nearby properties and would meet code if the variance is granted.
"It is in compliance with the code," said Staff member, describing the proposed sign and showing photos of a temporary sign currently at the site. No members of the public spoke in favor of or against the request.
Member (S4) moved to grant the variance; Member (S3) seconded the motion. The board voted in favor, and the motion carried unanimously.
The variance allows the applicant to erect three signs where the ordinance allows two per establishment at the specified property. The board did not record additional conditions to the approval during the meeting.
The board then moved on to other business and adjourned at 5:58 p.m.
