On Feb. 4 the Davie Town Council adopted a comprehensive parks code amendment that creates a new chapter of town code covering definitions, rules and regulations for town parks and recreational facilities, the Sunny Lake Bird Sanctuary, equestrian trails and penalties.
The town attorney read the ordinance on second reading. During the discussion, several councilmembers described recurring incidents in which off‑leash dogs startled horses on deeper, less visible trails. The mayor said he would vote for the ordinance but intends to return to the council within one or two meetings with an amendment that would identify specific trails where dogs would be prohibited to increase safety for riders.
Councilmembers noted that enforcement is difficult in remote trail areas, but they said placing a prohibition on the books would provide an enforcement mechanism if accidents occur. The code amendment passed on second reading after a roll‑call vote; the council recorded affirmatives from multiple members.
Staff said they will prepare any requested revisions for a future meeting and will work with the town’s animal‑control and parks staff on signage and enforcement approaches.
