The Allegany County Public Works Committee on Feb. 4 approved establishing 2026 capital projects to address multiple local bridge and culvert needs, drawing on funds already included in the county’s 2026 budget.
Superintendent Windes requested creation of the Wellsville project account (Local Bridge 2606, South Broad Street) and described the plan to remove a deteriorated plastic deck, install timber, and repave. He said the steel beams and sidewalk plastic decking remain in workable condition and that the proposed bid will reflect the timber-and-blacktop approach.
Windes also asked the committee to create a capital account for Belfast (Local Bridge 813 on Crawford Creek Road). He described the Belfast work as a full replacement with new steel sheet piling, replacement deck and related work and noted the town highway superintendent recommended no on-site detour.
The committee approved similar capital-project requests for Independence (County Route 22; grouped replacement of two box culverts) and Rushford (Local Culvert 7B-02 on County Route 7B, including head-wall replacement and coordination with a golf-course irrigation line). Windes said all projects were funded under the county’s 2026 budget line H51-20 and would be allocated per the MOE.
Each request was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote during the meeting. Windes said design work and bidding timelines will vary by project, with construction schedules to be determined after procurement.
