Board clears Haumeier duplex conversion; Planning Commission recommendation followed

The Madison County Board of Supervisors approved SU‑12‑25‑1 on Feb. 4, following a recommendation from the Planning Commission. The proposal would convert an existing single‑family dwelling at 4185 Orange Road to two units; the applicant reported interior‑only modifications with no increase in bedroom count.

Planning adviser Mitch Nichols told the commission that the conversion is straightforward, that bedroom counts will not change and that the applicant must file for a change of use with the local health department and obtain a building permit. VDOT provided comments earlier and raised no objections for this proposal. The Planning Commission moved to recommend approval to the Board; the Board voted to approve the special‑use permit in the joint session that followed.
