Parks staff report Crystal Beach drainage work, Sunrise golf renovations and staffing updates

Christian Hansen, introduced at the meeting as a parks staff member, described this winter’s maintenance and capital work across city parks. He said crews have done extensive land clearing and renovations at Sunrise Golf Course and that a drainage project at Crystal Beach is underway: crews have core-drilled holes and installed drains in the bathhouse, and perimeter drains and backflow work remain.

Hansen told the board the drainage element "was cut from the original design" and that the installation was hired out through BPW; he said it would not come out of the parks operating budget and characterized it as a capital expense. Hansen said the drainage work should be completed in time for the pool’s opening and that some additional equipment needs will be raised in future meetings.

Board members asked whether the drainage work had been anticipated in the parks budget; Hansen replied that it had been cut from the renovation and that BPW handled the contracting. He also reported staff changes: a full-time hire for the Rucker position and seasonal hires in place for the coming season.

The meeting record includes a remark that the drainage work is intended to reduce standing-water problems that affected the facility last year.
