Katy council approves overlay of pickleball lines on two Katy City Park courts, asks for community input

The Katy City Council on June 12 authorized a proposal from McKenna Contracting Inc. to overlay pickleball lines on tennis courts 5 and 6 at Katy City Park, 5720 Franz Road, using Region 5 ESC purchasing cooperative contract #20250908.

Staff said the recommendation was to stripe two courts initially and return later if demand requires additional overlay; the agenda memo listed a fiscal impact of $1,200–$2,400 depending on whether additional courts are added. Council members asked staff to make sure tennis and pickleball players have input on the design and to check line colors and contrast (staff suggested blue or yellow lines over white tennis lines). Council approved the motion to proceed with two courts by voice vote.

Parks staff will coordinate with local players on line color and placement before any additional striping is performed, and a follow-up to report completion was discussed as an administrative task.
