Board of Public Works approves Hopewell updates and permits for multiple street closures

At its Jan. 27 meeting the Bloomington Board of Public Works reported continued work on the Hopewell East redevelopment and unanimously approved several traffic and sidewalk permit requests tied to construction.

"We're putting a lot of staff time, resources, effort into the Hopewell project," Director of Public Works Adam Wason said, noting road projects and redevelopment of the old Bloomington Hospital site.

Engineering field specialist Zach Bell requested a 30-working-day extension for sidewalk and lane closures on West 11th Street for Duke Energy, moving the target finish date to March 31, 2026; the board passed the motion unanimously. Bell also requested closure of West 1st Street at 1004 West 1st for Clark Landscaping to replace sidewalks (one week per side); that motion also passed unanimously.

Engineering field specialist Kyle Baugh described extensive temporary traffic control for 115 East Kirkwood to accommodate utility relocations and construction of condominiums with ground-floor retail; proposed measures would run from Jan. 28 through July 28, 2027 (about 18 months). The board approved the request unanimously.
