USBE staff: October submission deadline moved; no extensions allowed going forward

At a Utah State Board of Education monthly data meeting, staff told local education agency data leads that the October 1 student data submission deadline will be adjusted going forward to 'four working days from the first,' effectively Oct. 5, and that there will be no deadline extensions.

Calista, a USBE presenter, said the board approved the compromise after LEA feedback: 'that compromise date was 4 working days from the first, which is October 5.' She noted that for the coming school year the practical deadline will be Oct. 7 because Oct. 5 falls on a weekend. Staff added that historical updates used for graduation and related purposes must be submitted two weeks before that finalization date (Sept. 23 this year).

USBE emphasized consequences for missed or inaccurate submissions. Calista warned districts to finalize their SIS records carefully because 'there are no extensions,' and errors discovered after finalization can affect funding allocations and graduation records. The agency said it will send a communication and a document LEAs will be asked to acknowledge explaining the no‑extension policy and related responsibilities.

Staffers offered to follow up with LEAs that expect exceptional circumstances and asked district representatives to sign up for a deeper‑dive conversation if they need help handling outlier cases.

Next steps: USBE will circulate guidance and the acknowledgement materials in the coming months and hold additional LEA data meetings before the October submission.
