Rangeley committee elects officers, confirms roles and record-keeping process

The Rangeley Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee held an organizational meeting to select officers and set procedures for implementing the town’s comprehensive plan.

Speaker 2 nominated Mark Beauregard for chair; the nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote (individual tallies were not recorded in the transcript). The committee then moved to elect Athna Thompson as vice chair; that motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Speaker 2 later nominated Karl Kulz for secretary; the nomination was seconded and accepted.

Committee members discussed the secretary’s duties. “Secretary primarily take minutes and keep a record of of discussion,” said Speaker 1, who described the secretary as responsible for recording motions and keeping an accurate record. The chair reviewed the committee bylaws and reminded members that the chairman, vice chairman and secretary serve one-year terms and are re-elected annually. Members agreed to follow Robert’s Rules of Order for meeting procedure and to route draft documents to legal counsel before sending them to the board of selectmen when appropriate.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn at 5:18 p.m.; the motion was seconded and the meeting was closed.
