The Atlanta City Council proclaimed Feb. 2026 as "Love Your Park Month," with Community Development Human Services Chair Matt Westmoreland outlining recent park investments and volunteer opportunities.
Westmoreland highlighted previous council actions including increased park impact fees, the Moving Atlanta Forward bond investments, and a $2,000,000 community park fund established in 2021 and subsequent discretionary contributions in 2023. "There are 33 opportunities for Atlanta residents to come love your park, and to engage in volunteer activities," Westmoreland said, and he handed the proclamation to the Department of Parks and Recreation commissioner.
Justin Cutler, Commissioner for the Department of Parks and Recreation, credited the mayor's Greenspace Advisory Council and partners (Park Pride, Hands on Atlanta, Trees Atlanta) for organizing month‑long stewardship activities and said organizers hope to engage over 1,000 volunteers across districts. Council members highlighted district cleanup events and invited residents to volunteer at named parks (Wilson Mill Park and Cascade Springs Nature Preserve were cited).
The proclamation asks residents, neighborhood groups, schools, nonprofits and businesses to join cleanup events, tree plantings and stewardship initiatives across all council districts during the month.
No formal vote was required for the proclamation presentation beyond recognition and handing of the proclamation at the dais.
