Board approves contracts, nonpublic tuition placements and policy changes

QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY, Md. — The Queen Anne's County Board of Education on Jan. 7 approved a series of consent and action items, including nonpublic tuition placements, a building‑systems contract and multiple policy updates.

Key actions taken:

- Approved nonpublic tuition for the Harbor School (fiscal impact $33,948.16; FY26 unrestricted operating budget).
- Approved nonpublic tuition for students at High Road School of Anne Arundel County (fiscal impact $50,733; FY26 restricted and unrestricted operating budgets).
- Approved a contract with Johnson Controls, Incorporated to upgrade network and HVAC control components at Centerville Elementary School; contract amount $72,553.41, funded by the MABE risk resource community grant. Sid Pinder, chief operating officer, said the work will integrate two legacy systems so one energy‑management system can control humidity, heating and cooling.
- Approved Policy 4‑10 (Employee Use of Social Media) as recommended; administration reported no public input prior to the meeting.
- Approved rescission of three policies and associated regulations: Policy 4‑14 (Employment of Students), Policy 4‑28 (Statement of Assignment) and Policy 6‑11 (Courses and Workshops); Jennifer Schreckengost said these items are now covered elsewhere or handled through the Maryland Department of Labor online processes.
