Bluff council approves $12,656 sidewalk and grading bid for new playground, covers small budget gap

Bluff — The council approved a contract to complete a sidewalk perimeter and grading for the town’s planned playground.

Parks staff Malia reported the town received one responsive bid from Pueblo Tierra Construction for $12,656 to install a sidewalk around the playground, grading and retaining-wall work, and related site work. The playground contract and related commitments total roughly $180,191 versus a $165,000 grant and a $13,000 cash match; staff said the town’s remaining net exposure, if the council approved the bid, would be about $2,191.

Malia said the bid covers the perimeter sidewalk, connections to the pavilion and kitchen, grading and the sport-court fence; she proposed completing the playground perimeter and installation first and deferring work on the sport court to use in-kind grading later.

When asked about budget impact, finance/staff said parks and recreation has sufficient contingency in the approved annual budget, and the town would not exceed the approved budget by accepting the bid.

Council called for a vote to approve the sidewalk and grading vendor; the motion passed with one abstention (the transcript does not record the abstaining member’s name). Staff will proceed with contracting and scheduling work to complete the playground perimeter.

What’s next: Staff to finalize contract with Pueblo Tierra Construction and schedule installation; sport-court installation may follow as a later phase.
