Council recognizes Anniston Middle School boys basketball team for county championship

The Anderson City Council recognized the Anniston Middle School boys basketball team at its regular meeting, praising the players for their recent Calhoun County junior-high championship and their perseverance on and off the court.

Council members invited the team forward, presented an acknowledgment and posed for a group photograph. The presiding official said the city wanted to acknowledge the players “for your hard work and your dedication,” and thanked parents and coaches for supporting the program.

Coach Reese addressed the team and attendees, thanking city leaders and parents and emphasizing teamwork. “Well done, gentlemen. Hard work, perseverance,” Reese said, adding that this was the team’s first year under the new junior-high county championship rules and that the group had overcome adversity to succeed.

Council members said they looked forward to following the players’ progress through middle and high school. The recognition concluded with council members and staff taking photos with the team.

The meeting then moved on to the rest of the agenda.
