Council receives in‑car camera report for Santa Ana Police Department

Councilmembers received a staff briefing on in‑car (vehicle) camera systems for Santa Ana Police Department vehicles and voted unanimously (7–0) to receive and file the informational report.

Councilmembers asked staff to include total costs, personnel impacts and retention/access policies in future budget requests or procurement actions and discussed whether a sole‑source purchase or competitive bid would be appropriate. Staff said Axon is a potential vendor but assured council that procurement strategy (sole source or competitive bid) will be determined during budgeting and purchasing processes.
