York County commissioners voted to approve a trial internship for the York County Visitors Bureau, authorizing a temporary part-time intern position through Sept. 1 and asking the bureau to report back in August on the position's impact. Separately, the board adopted resolutions reappointing Lonnie Berger and Jeff Stoy to four-year terms on the Visitors Bureau board.
Visitors Bureau presenter Alex described the intern role as a cost-effective way to support marketing, digital content and administrative tasks, saying the position would work "15 to 20 hours maximum a week, with the pay scale set at 18 to 20 dollars an hour." Alex also said recent lodging-tax receipts have increased and that an intern could help translate analytics into usable content and photographs.
Commissioners raised concerns about continuity and training time for short-term interns; one commissioner recommended a trial period and quarterly reporting. Alex agreed to provide a quarterly report on output and impact. The board approved the trial motion by roll call and later approved resolutions reappointing Lonnie Berger (term to 01/31/2030) and Jeff Stoy (term to 03/01/2030), noting the Visitors Bureau board had unanimously recommended both.
The actions do not create a permanent full-time position; the trial will be re-evaluated in August and can be continued or ended after the reporting period.
