Superintendent Jesus Chavarria told the Anaheim Elementary School District board on Jan. 21 that the district has identified a $28,000,000 deficit and is projecting continuing budget pressure in coming years due to declining enrollment.
"We identified a $28,000,000 deficit for this year," Chavarria said, and he asked the board to direct staff to work with the Budget Advisory Committee and associations to prepare a fiscal solvency plan. He said the governor's proposed 2.41% COLA would effectively reduce the district's funding by about $1.2 million for Anaheim Elementary, even as the proposal includes one-time student support and professional development funding the district could access.
