Anson Stone LLC project update: quarry plans, investment and jobs presented to county

Assistant county manager Nick Addison updated the Anson County Board of Commissioners on Anson Stone LLC’s planned 491-acre granite quarry on Diggs Road and summarized the company’s projected economic impacts.

Addison said the county previously approved a special use permit for the quarry on Aug. 19, 2025, and that Anson Stone anticipates about $25,000,000 in capital and site-preparation investment. The company projects roughly $4,000,000 in annual operating expenditures once running and about $13,000,000 in mobile fleet upgrades and maintenance spread across the first 20 years. Addison said the firm expects to advertise positions locally and hire 15-plus full-time employees with hourly wages in the $22–$38 range; salaried roles were projected at roughly $75,000–$130,000.

In economic impact terms, Addison said the county could see a little over $10,000,000 in direct, indirect and induced tax revenue across an initial 20-year window, with construction-phase revenues and one-time impacts in the near term. He reported that Anson Stone has secured an air permit from the state Department of Environmental Quality and is pursuing necessary mining and other state permits, with company representatives expecting permits within roughly three months. If permits come through on schedule, the company plans to break ground and aim for an opening in the spring or summer.

Commissioners discussed local hiring and workforce development connections; Addison said the company is familiar with NCWorks and workforce development partners and intends to post job openings on standard job boards as the project advances. No formal county action was taken at the meeting; staff will continue to monitor permit progress and the company’s outreach plans.
