Dunlap High students outline Unified program schedule, fundraising and upcoming 'pool plunge' for Special Olympics

Students from Dunlap High’s Unified program presented to the board, explaining activities and upcoming events that pair general-education students with peers in Special Olympics programs. Presenters listed regular unified-dance practice during PE, a performance Jan. 27 at the Limestone basketball game and an IHSA State event on Jan. 31. The students also cited unified sport events (basketball, soccer, volleyball), seasonal dances and a sensory-friendly prom.

Several students described an inaugural 'pool plunge' fundraiser planned for March 6 on the football field, modeled after a polar plunge, with students raising money by jumping into cold water. Presenters said costume and shoe expenses for performances have been funded in part by Special Olympics and local support. One presenter said, "We've already raised over $4,000 for Special Olympics." Trustees thanked the students for the presentation and invited attendees to upcoming events.
