The Mount Clemens City Commission approved recommended Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) allocations for 2026 and heard several development and infrastructure updates from staff.
Staff presented the proposed CDBG plan, noting the city may allocate up to $12,800 for public service organizations in FY2026 and may apply for up to one or two capital projects with maximum requests of $150,000 each. The administration’s recommended allocations were: Lawndale Park playground equipment, $150,000; fire engine and fire equipment, $150,000; and Mount Clemens senior recreation programming, $12,800. Commissioners discussed the importance of senior programming — one commissioner said isolation is "the number one risk factor for seniors" — and the commission voted to approve the allocations.
In the assistant city manager report, staff said the city issued a building permit for redevelopment of the former Victory Inn property into a 116-unit, four-story apartment complex. Staff also reminded residents of the Presidents Day closure and promoted upcoming recreation programs, including a senior art class beginning Feb. 19 and a youth basketball league starting in March.
Staff additionally announced that the local bridge advisory board recommended the Cocker Boulevard bridge over the Clinton River for inclusion in the Neighborhood Roads Fund; the application estimate given in the meeting was $9,337,000 with an anticipated state share of 95% of eligible project costs and funding anticipated in fiscal year 2027. Commissioners celebrated the successful recommendation as the culmination of multiple application cycles.
No new binding zoning or land-use approvals were recorded in this session beyond the building permit issuance noted by staff; the commission’s formal votes included approval of the CDBG allocations and routine consent items.
