The Senate convened with an opening prayer and a series of routine announcements before approving a motion to adjourn until Thursday, February 5 at 9 AM.
Senator Guth, introduced as the senator from Hancock, offered the morning prayer, asking the chamber to be guided in listening to constituents and “to make wise decisions,” concluding, “We ask these things in Jesus' name.” Shortly afterward the presiding officer invited the chamber to stand for the pledge of allegiance.
Senator McClintock, identified as the senator from Linn, used his time to invite colleagues to an AI public policy forum organized by the Technology Association of Iowa at the Hilton downtown Des Moines, saying, “You're all invited to attend the AI forum from 4 to 5 and the reception from 5 to 7PM.” He also noted two birthdays in his office and directed colleagues to donuts available in the back of the chamber.
Senator Shipley announced an Iowa Soybean Association reception that evening and mentioned representatives from Class I railroads would be present at a separate event later in the day. Senator Knox introduced and welcomed the national-champion Grandview varsity soccer team, noting the squad includes players from 18 countries and two athletes who attend East High School.
Procedural notices followed: Senator Weiner said Democrats would caucus in Room 24 after the rules and administration meeting. The senator from Winneshiek moved that the Senate adjourn until Thursday, February 5 at 9 AM and announced that a rules meeting and a Republican caucus in Room 22 would meet immediately upon adjournment. The presiding officer called a voice vote; after an audible “Aye” from the floor the chair declared the motion prevailed and announced, “the senate is adjourned until Thursday, February 5 at 9AM.”
The Senate adjourned following the voice vote. The next scheduled convening announced on the floor is Thursday, February 5 at 9 AM.
