Superintendent highlights district security walkthrough, program updates and upcoming STEM night

During his Jan. 21 report Superintendent Ferraro updated the board on several district initiatives. He said the district hosted or scheduled a state security walkthrough to assess safety and identify deficiencies that could be budgeted for repair. Facilities work cited included roof-leak repairs in the old gym roof and preliminary ductwork at Roosevelt and Grama schools.

Ferraro reported the high school ROD grant (described in the meeting as near final closeout) is in its last stages with the BMS system and the administration is finalizing revisions before completion. The board was introduced to the Energy Savings Improvement Program (ESIP) as an option to consider for district energy projects; Ferraro said more information will come as staff explore whether ESIP is viable for the district.

On instruction and services, Ferraro noted special services staff are organizing inclusion-setting coaching for February and working on progress monitoring for students with IEPs. He also said the district distributed a flyer for a joint Parent/Guardian Learning Academy STEM night with Little Ferry, scheduled for Feb. 4 at 6 p.m., to promote the new STEM pathway and CTE expansion.

Ferraro also referenced the district’s status with Collaborative Federal Monitoring (CFM), noting the district has not yet been released and administration is awaiting direction to obtain a final release. The superintendent concluded with standard administrative announcements and recognition activities.
