Miss Bennett, who introduced herself with participants from the Wit Leadership Development Academy, asked the Montgomery City Council for $10,000 to support the academy’s mother–daughter brunch and ongoing programming for girls. She described work on mental-health awareness, menstrual equity and leadership training and asked the council to invest in girls and the future of Montgomery.
"We're looking for $10,000 from the city of Montgomery council," Miss Bennett said, requesting city support for programming scheduled during Women’s History Month, including a March 7 mother–daughter brunch.
Council members responded with supportive comments and logistical notes: Speaker 2 and others invited the group to take a photo, and Speaker 2 said the group needed to stay for the full meeting to receive the funds. The council did not record a formal vote on the funding request in the work-session transcript.
The academy’s presentation also included students and mentors; the group asked the council to consider the broader benefits of investing in girls’ leadership and mental-health resources. Next steps: the request is on the council’s public communication roster and will be considered in subsequent budget or discretionary funding discussions.
