The Orland Park Planning Commission on Feb. 3 approved a staff-recommended corrective action to the Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior cladding, window and roof-edge replacements at the Old Orland Park Library, located at 9917 West 143rd Street in the village's Old Orland Historic District.
Planning staff presented the case and recommended approval, saying the petitioner seeks corrective action for exterior cladding, new windows and roof-edge component replacements and that a recent contractor/property-owner misunderstanding had led to inconsistent color references. "Staff recommends the plan commission approve a corrective action to the certificate of appropriateness," the presenter said during the meeting.
Staff clarified the approved color palette: the siding will use James Hardie’s "watering can" tone while "rich espresso" will be used on fascia, soffit, gutters, window trim and corners. Commissioners also raised and resolved a question about window materials: staff reiterated that "in the historic district, vinyl is not allowed, and they must be wood or painted metal," a restriction noted in the January 6 staff report.
No members of the public offered testimony on the case at the meeting. A commissioner moved to approve the staff-recommended action; the motion was seconded and the commission recorded aye votes from Commissioners Sanchez, Parisi, Schuster, Fenton and Shelby. The motion carried and the corrective action was adopted.
The case file and the staff report will be entered into the public record and the approved findings will be attached to the board packet as part of the normal review process.
