The La Porte Common Council on Feb. 2 introduced an ordinance to vacate a cul‑de‑sac on Walton Avenue in the Orchard Home Subdivision, and held a public hearing during which petitioner Eric Krueger described plans to develop the property.
Council President Franke moved to introduce the ordinance for first reading, with the legal description omitted from the audible reading. The ordinance states the petition was filed by Eric Krueger and that adjoining property owners were notified as required by Indiana statute and by public notice in the Herald Dispatch. The council held a public hearing as part of the introduction.
Petitioner Eric Krueger told the council he intends a phased residential development under R1B zoning that would yield roughly 27 lots meeting the 70‑foot frontage and 10,000‑square‑foot minimum requirements; he said construction would begin on Walton Avenue and could start as early as April if approvals and plan‑commission steps are completed. Council members emphasized the current item was the street vacation only and that Krueger must seek Plan Commission review for subdivision and construction approvals.
The ordinance was introduced (first reading) and will be considered further at the Feb. 17 council meeting. No final council vote on the vacation occurred at the Feb. 2 meeting.
