Residents urge action on homelessness, oppose AI data centers and seek volunteers at council meeting

Several residents used the public-comment portion of the council meeting to raise community needs and policy concerns.

Sandra King described a small, locally run 'City of Angels' program operating from a three-bedroom trailer off Williams Street that she said helps people experiencing homelessness to get clean, find work and rejoin the community. King said she and her family have been homeless, described personal recovery experience and asked for community support and input; she offered a phone number for follow-up.

Sarah Sirfoss said she organized an email campaign to determine whether the city would take proactive steps to limit or ban the development of AI data centers locally, citing concerns about infrastructure strain, environmental and health impacts, and noise. She referenced House Bill 1007, urged the council to publicly support protections and asked the council to improve constituent outreach via polls and livestreams.

Senior Mitchell (Mr. Mitchell) announced upcoming free clinic dates at Crestview High School offering medical, dental and vision services and sought volunteers, especially professional medical volunteers, and potential sponsors.

Council members thanked speakers, noted staff follow-ups and encouraged community members to engage with upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.
