An unidentified committee member described a citizen-led effort to install a pollinator/wildflower area near Conway’s Trail Shelter at Foundation Park and asked the Buildings & Grounds committee for a statement of support to present to the property owner.
The speaker said the volunteer group would ‘‘install the wildflower area and then hand it over to us and we would maintain it,’’ and that the project would impose no material cost on the city beyond routine maintenance. The parks board reportedly voted to support the concept and the staff member asked the committee for a motion so he could present that support to the TJ Evans Foundation, the property owner named in discussion.
Chair (Unidentified) made a motion to support the pollinator project in the community parks and the motion was seconded. Recorded verbal responses during the roll-call-style confirmation were recorded as ‘Yes’ from Brooks, Coleman and Height; the committee approved the motion.
Committee members discussed grant possibilities and noted that the volunteer group could apply for outside grants, but that the initial installation would be funded by the volunteers. The motion supports staff in taking the expression of committee support to the property owner and partner organizations.
