Scotland County sets meter-deposit deadline as North Turnpike water line advances

County staff told the Scotland County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 2 that construction of the North Turnpike water line is proceeding rapidly and set a Feb. 16 deadline for residents to pay meter deposits.

Managerial staff reported crews are laying pipe at about half a mile per day; once the contractor passes a property, the county must provide a list of meter locations and unpaid deposits could mean residents miss the opportunity to have a meter installed on the initial pass. To ease access, the county will hold an outreach event on Feb. 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Oak Hill Baptist Church (North Turnpike) where residents can pay deposits, get receipts and ask questions.

Officials encouraged broader publicity of the cutoff date, saying they will update flyers and share the deadline via county Facebook and local radio. No legislative action was required; staff asked the board to endorse stepped-up outreach so residents do not miss the meter-installation window.
