Legislative roundup: dozens of bills introduced, nominations referred; Arizona Aviation Day proclaimed

PHOENIX — The Arizona State Senate’s Jan. 22 floor session included a long list of executive nominations, the introduction and referral of numerous bills across policy areas, a legislative proclamation recognizing Arizona Aviation Day and routine committee scheduling, followed by an adjournment motion.

Clerk and staff read multiple communications from the governor and several executive-nomination names were referred to committees (examples named on the floor included Bruce Brackert to the Transportation Board; Charles Bassett to the Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions; Deborah Johnston to the Department of Health Services; and Virginia Rountree to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System). The clerk then read dozens of bills being introduced or assigned to committees (a sampling included SB1268 on property tax exemption for veterans; SB1295 on inmate medical institutional release; multiple SB13### bills on education, natural resources, judiciary and other topics). Several bills were placed under second reading as noted by the clerk.

Senator Frank Carroll read a proclamation naming Jan. 26, 2026, "Arizona Aviation Day," and cited figures provided in the proclamation, including a reported annual aviation economic impact of $121,400,000,000 and 67 public-use airports in the state. Carroll also called forward representatives from the Arizona Airports Association to be recognized on the floor.

Near the end of the session, Mister Webb moved that the Senate adjourn until Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at 1:15 p.m.; the motion was stated on the record and the chamber recessed and then adjourned.
